The Partridge Family star passed away on Tuesday 21 November, his family have confirmed in a statement.

“On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy.

“David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long.

“Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years”, the family said in an statement to People.

On Wednesday 15 November, David Cassidy was rushed to hospital in Florida with organ failure.

His family were told to “prepare for the worst” as they awaited a vital liver transplant.

He was placed in an induced coma, but two days later began to gain consciousness.

Beau Cassidy, David’s son, wrote on the star’s official Facebook page on Monday 20 November to update fans on his father’s condition.

He wrote: “Unfortunately David is very sick. However he is getting the support he needs, surrounded by the people he loves most.

“Thank you very much for your love and concern that you have expressed in your messages to him. Beau Cassidy.”
