The 53-year-old actor hit out at two of his fellow TV stars who launched music careers in recent months.

Shane – who is most known for his role as Alfie Moon in EastEnders – dropped a country music album, titled A Country Soul, just two months after DIY SOS host Nick Knowles announced the upcoming release of his Christmas covers album.

Comedian Jason Manford had a crack at chart success earlier this year with album A Different Stage.

After being quizzed about his competition, Shane admitted that he wanted to put some distance between the trio, telling The Guardian: “I don’t know Nick very well, but he’s a chippie who sings. I do this to make a living.

“When I wasn’t on EastEnders and there wasn’t much in the way of work, I’d put in a three-week tour and we’d go and play for cash.

“It’s horrible being tied in with Nick Knowles and Jason Manford. I’d like to be judged on the tracks.”

He’s now backtracked, confessing that his comments were meant to be funny, but they got out of hand.

Shane told The Daily Express’s Saturday Magazine: “I’d like to say sorry to Jason Manford and Nick Knowles for my silly outburst the other week. It was just a gag that backfired.”

The former Grease star previously admitted his upcoming country album features a track about his “mid-life crisis”.

Speaking about his song Shut Up (‘Cause All I Want Is You) written with the help of his son Jake Roche, Shane said: “One time I said to [Christie Goddard, his wife], ‘I’ve put on a bit of weight, I’m going grey at the sides,’ and she said, ‘Oh shut up, all I want is you.’
