OutKast also released a new animated video for the album’s hazy highlight “Two Dope Boyz (in a Cadillac).”
Tomorrow, OutKast will release a 25th-anniversary expansion of their classic sophomore album, ATLiens. The deluxe reissue of the duo’s 1996 album will feature a fully remastered set of the original recordings, as well as the instrumentals for the album, which have never seen a release. But an unexpected, yet wholly fitting, component of the celebration is a new video game based on the album, which will allow players to defend Atlanta from, you guessed it, an alien invasion, as either Big Boi or Andre 3000. The game is being developed for mobile and desktop browsers by the London-based firm, F That. However, a release date has yet to be announced.
As a more immediate (and slightly less interactive,) visual companion to the album’s anniversary, “Two Dope Boyz (in a Cadillac,)” a hazy highlight from the project, has been treated to a tripped-out animated visual. Directed by Rafatoon (who recently helmed a cartoon video treatment for Sia and Burna Boy’s “Hey Boy,”) the clip trails Sir Lucious Leftfoot and Three Stacks on a kaleidoscopic joy ride to the moon, leaving a trail of billowing blunt smoke in their wake.
Originally released on August 27th, 1996 via LaFace Records, ATLiens debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s 200 albums chart as both a critical and commercial darling, moving 350,000 copies in it first two weeks on shelves. The album was eventually certified double platinum by the RIAA.
You can watch the animated video for “Two Dope Boyz (in a Cadillac)” below.
