The hit-making duo will contribute to a new Janet Jackson album in 2022.

Janet Jackson is getting the band back together.

The 55-year-old icon has announced her first album since 2015 will arrive next year with contributions from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the production duo pivotal to the creation of nearly every Jackson album since the singer’s 1986 breakout, Control (with the exception of 2008’s Discipline.) According to a KISS 108 report, Jackson’s incoming 12th studio album will also feature collaborations with Earth, Wind & Fire’s Ralph Johnson, “Man In The Mirror” co-writer, Siedah Garret, and others. Additionally, Good Morning America notes the project’s first single will arrive by the end of this year.

The still untitled album will serve as a follow-up to Unbreakable, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s albums chars upon release in 2015. Unbreakable was anchored by two high-profile collaborations with Missy Elliott (on “BURNITUP!,”) and J. Cole (on “No Sleeep,”) respectively, and supported by a massive world tour. It also marked Jackson’s first reunion with her hit-making team (with whom she’s scored nine No. 1 records,) after taking an album off for Discipline, which was mostly produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins.

Should the new project land at the top of 2022, it would align with the release of a forthcoming documentary about Jackson’s life, career, and legacy. Aptly titled, JANET, the two-part Lifetime doc was teased in a short trailer just a few weeks back. A firm release date for the film has yet to be announced, but a preview proper should be arriving imminently.

Watch the teaser for JANET below and hold tight for updates on the new Janet Jackson album in the weeks ahead.
