Washington, D.C. – Donald Trump conveniently forgot about his previous with Lil Jon. During a contentious press convention following the 2018 midterm elections, the president claimed he didn’t know who Lil Jon was when questioned about allegedly calling the crunk rapper an “Uncle Tom.”
Yahoo News’ White House correspondent introduced up Lil Jon’s allegation whereas asking if Trump ever made racist remarks. After Trump stated he didn’t know Lil Jon, the reporter corrected the president by stating that the platinum-selling artist was a solid member of Trump’s actuality present The Celebrity Apprentice.
“Oh he was?” Trump responded. “I see. No. I might by no means do this, and I don’t use racist remarks and, you understand what? If I did, you individuals, you’d have recognized about it.”
Lil Jon appeared on two seasons of Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice throughout its tv run. Allegations about Trump referring to Lil Jon as “Uncle Tom” first surfaced in a 2016 report by The Daily Beast.
“We stored making an attempt to clarify to [Trump] that that’s not a phrase you need to use, that it’s offensive,” an Apprentice worker advised The Daily Beast. “One of the manager producers needed to name him up on to [plead with] him to not say it, and Trump was like, ‘No, that’s a saying, it’s Uncle Tom.’ There are a number of takes within the footage of the dailies that has him making an attempt to determine the distinction between ‘Uncle Tom’ and Uncle Sam. He simply couldn’t grasp that it was offensive… When [Trump] decides he needs to do one thing, that’s his manner.”
Lil Jon confirmed the report in a press release issued on Twitter.
“When this ‘Uncle Tom’ incident occurred on Celebrity Apprentice within the boardroom a number of of my castmates and I addressed Mr. Trump instantly once we heard the remark,” he wrote in 2016. “I can’t say if he knew what he was really saying or not however he did cease utilizing that time period as soon as we defined it’s offensiveness.”
