“Supermarket Flowers” is the twelfth song on his third studio album Divide and is one the most emotional songs on the album.

It’s melancholy yet warm and loving, and is about Ed losing his grandmother.

“My gran passed away and we were clearing out her hospital room and the supermarket flowers from the windowsill and having that moment,” he told Nova FM last month.

Fans have been experiencing extreme emotional reactions to the song.

“I was expecting Supermarket Flowers to be a cute love song but no here I am sobbing,” tweeted one fan.

“Supermarket flowers. Ok, I’m slowly dying inside,” another posted.

Some have been loving the juxtaposition between “Supermarket Flowers” and the next song on the album “Barcelona.”

“Supermarket Flowers” isn’t the only song about his grandparents as “Nancy Mulligan” tells the story his Irish grandma and grandad falling in love in County Wexford.
