DXclusives: Caleb Brown & T.I.

Caleb Brown Debuts & Details Sonny Digital-Produced “Brown” EP

Caleb Brown’s debut EP Brown features Sonny Digital as its sole producer, and he detailed how the project came to be, as well as the concept behind the project’s first single “Die A Legend,” in an interview with RealStreetRadio.

“Wasn’t too much of a concept other than being — When I say the term ‘die a legend,’ I’m not even referring to anything musically, per se,” he told DX’s Justin Ivey. “It’s more so me as a person. I felt like I did what I had to do, as a family member, as a brother, son, boyfriend, etc., which made me a standup guy, which makes me a legend when I die. Period. So, that’s kinda like where that really stems from. But I really wrote the song in five minutes, kinda freestyled the whole thing.”

T.I. Calls Grand Hustle A Cultural Institution & Reaffirms His Creation Of Trap Music

RealStreetRadio’s Editor-In-Chief Trent Clark chatted with T.I. at Comfort LA in downtown Los Angeles for an episode of Soulful Sundays, discussing how the term “trap music” came to be.

“Of course there were people talking about dope,” he says. “The first time I ever heard the word trap was probably Khujo [of Goodie Mob]. But as far as putting the words trap and music together to describe a sound, that’s what I’m talking about. I’m not the first to say I was selling dope. I ain’t saying I’m the first to say the word trap.”

He adds, “But the word trap and music together to describe a sound, you can’t go past August 19, [2003].”
