Nick Cannon Leaves "America's Got Talent" Fiasco Behind To Host "Lip Sync Battle Shorties"

Nick Cannon left NBC’s America’s Got Talent in February after a joke he made on a Showtime stand-up comedy special was deemed inappropriate by the network. Cannon was accused being in breach contract, but rather than wait for the network to act, he quit.

“I was to be punished for a joke,” he wrote on Facebook at the time. “This has weighed heavy on my spirit. It was brought to my attention by my ‘team’ that NBC believed that I was in breach contract because I had disparaged their brand. I find myself in a dark place having to make a decision that I wish I didn’t have to, but as a man, an artist, and a voice for my community I will not be silenced, controlled or treated like a piece property. There is no amount money worth my dignity or my integrity.”

But it’s all working out in his favor. The Wild ‘N Out star has reportedly signed up for a new hosting gig at Nickelodeon for the show Lip Sync Battle Shorties, a kid-friendly version LL Cool J’s popular Lip Sync Battles series on Spike TV.

In each episode, three kids must personalize their performances by coming up with their own costumes, choreography, staging and songs. The contestants do get a little assistance from the Shorties Dance Crew, a 10-person, in-house backup dancers crew who are well versed in everything from breakdancing to ballroom dancing. Each episode also features a special celebrity appearance and final performance from all the kids.

YouTube star JoJo Siwa serves as Cannon’s co-host and provides commentary on the performances.

The initial spinf premiered as a special last year and has garnered over 20 million views on Nickelodeon’s YouTube channel.

Lip Sync Battle Shorties plans to return with Halloween and holiday specials before the first 10-episode season launches in early 2018.

JAY-Z Calls Coldplay's Chris Martin "A Modern Day Shakespeare"

London – JAY-Z has never been afraid to step outside the Hip Hop scene to give props to artists excelling in other genres, something he proved when he collaborated with rock band Linkin Park on the 2004 mash-up album Collision Course.

The latest outsider to receive huge praise from Hov is Coldplay’s lead singer and songwriter, Chris Martin, whom JAY has referred to as a “modern day Shakespeare.”

Speaking to the UK’s Metro News, JAY singled out the man behind hits like “The Scientist,” “Viva La Vida” and “Fix You” for enormous praise.

“In years to come, Britain will look back at him as a modern day Shakespeare,” JAY said the man from Devon.

“He is an incredible recording artist, an incredible songwriter, but where he really comes alive is performing live. If you get the chance to see Coldplay live, do it — you ain’t gonna regret it.”

“We are good friends — but what I got to say has nothing to do with our friendship. I have been in the industry long enough to know when I’m in the presence a genius and Chris Martin is just that.”

JAY and Chris have teamed up before, first on Hov’s highly criticized 2006 comeback album, Kingdom Come, before releasing the record “Most Kingz” back in 2010.

Could a new collab be on the cards?

J. Cole has addressed the issue mass incarceration and the prison industrial complex in his music and even doing so while in his 4 Your Eyez Only tour wearing mock prison garb. The North Carolina star and members his Dreamville team made a recent visit to San Quentin State Prison in California to visit with inmates who will never see the other side the wall again.

It isn’t readily clear when this visit took place, but both Hamad and Brown posted their photos to Instagram on Tuesday (July 1).

“We got the opportunity to spend the day at San Quentin State Prison talking and meeting inmates who will never see the outside again. That experience was a life changing experience and wish I had the ability to put that in a caption but that wouldn’t be doing it justice,” Hamad wrote in the photo he posted.

J. Cole wore an orange prison jumpsuit during tour stops last month, adding to the spectacle and themes present on his latest album, 4 Your Eyez Only. Information on why Cole and Dreamville were at the prison is scant at the moment, but it appears the visit is part a larger mission for the rapper to connect his message with the music.
